Working Within

A fractional fundraising agency that embeds inside grassroots nonprofits — every engagement starts with a fundability and feasibility review before strategy and implementation begin.

About the firm

Working Within places fractional Development Directors inside growing nonprofits, building fundraising capacity from the inside rather than handing over a plan and walking away. The model is built for organizations raising $300K–$3M annually — past the volunteer-led stage, not yet ready for a full-time development team.

Engagements open with a fundability and feasibility review: what the organization can realistically raise, from whom, and what has to be true first. Strategy and implementation follow across 11 nonprofit revenue streams, so no client is left leaning on one or two sources. Clients average an 18x ROI on their investment.

Charlyn Moss founded Working Within after serving as COO of the Economic Development Association for Black Communities, Chief of Staff at EdSolutions, and Analyst at Redstone Strategy Group, where she managed strategy for a $300M national K-12 education portfolio. She holds a B.S. in Finance from Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis, with additional study in the business of social impact and legal studies, and was named one of Poets & Quants' Best & Brightest Business Undergrads. She is a graduate of the Goldman Sachs Black Women in Business initiative and the Advancing Regenerative Capital Fellowship at Boston Impact Initiative.
